How the
CSU Pet Sitters Conference Began...
The original founders
of CSU Pet Sitters Conference first met via the internet, on an online
discussion group created in 1993 specifically for pet sitters. Since
the pet sitting industry was still very new, the list members were all
thirsty for knowledge and willing to share their experiences and help
one another. From that interaction grew a lasting bond within the group.
Although that bond grew and internet friendships were formed, the group
longed to put faces to those names and meet one another in person.
A few of the original
list members met at a PSI conference in Las Vegas in 1997. When they
returned home from that conference, they kicked around the idea of offering
pet sitters a gathering where they could come together and share knowledge,
grow their businesses, strengthen the industry and at the same time
keep it affordable for all. But as with all great ideas, some things
were problematic and a location could not be decided on. Finally they
decided to hold the first conference in Tampa Florida, the home of the
founder of the online discussion group where they all first met. They
set the date and welcomed everyone to attend.

The first Cybersitters
United Conference, 1998
There were approximately
20 pet sitters in attendance and they learned what worked and what didnt.
They wanted to continue to offer an affordable conference put on *by
pet sitters, for pet sitters* and make every conference better than
the one before. And that's exactly what happened. Nine years of offering
pet sitters an affordable, educational, entertaining and high quality
conference have come to pass. As with any organization, team members
have come and gone and new ones have stepped up to take the reins. However,
the focus and goals have never changed and CSU has grown by leaps and
bounds. CSU Pet Sitters Conference is bigger, better, and stronger than
ever thanks to a dedicated group of individuals who tirelessly volunteer
their time and energies to bring pet sitters a wonderful annual educational
opportunity.
The conference offers
a chance to meet, learn, share our experiences, and grow our individual
businesses, thereby strengthening our industry as a whole. CSU also
grows bigger and better each year thanks to all of you, the wonderful
pet sitters who attend the annual conferences. We have members that
have been with us from the very beginning who come every year to show
their support and share their knowledge with others. We're very proud
and honored to still have two of the real pioneers of CSU on board with
us in an advisory capacity! Janet Depathy and Lynn Penfield. Janet is
one of the original founders of CSU and the heart of this organization.
Lynn has been with CSU since the early days and was instrumental in
organizing and orchestrating the 2006 conference in Miami. We have many
members who have attended our conferences for six, seven, eight years
and more so we must be doing something right.
After holding the
first few conferences in the same place each year, it was decided that
we should move our conference to a new location each year to give pet
sitters from different areas an equal opportunity to join us. We always
hold them in January, and in a warmer climate. There have been so many
pet sitters throughout the years that have made these conferences possible
and we owe them our never ending gratitude. Their efforts have established
a tradition of learning and helping one another which will continue
for many years to come.
So make plans to
join us in Las Vegas, Nevada (where the legend began) January 23rd-26th
2007 for our BIG Tenth Anniversary Conference and become a part of our
tradition o f. . .
Pet
Sitters helping one another by
Sharing, Caring, and Being There!
We
look forward to meeting you and having *YOU* become a part of our history!
