Farewell
CSU Pet Sitters Conference®
The CSU Pet Sitters
Conference® celebrated its tenth anniversary in January, 2007. When
the conference was founded, as Cybersitters United, there were only
two national gatherings for pet sitters - the PSI and NAPPS conventions.
There were very few networks, and not much in the way of support for
pet sitters in their local area. So, the idea was to bring pet sitters
a reasonably priced conference with speakers who were 'in the trenches'
pet sitters who knew the industry. Thus, 'pet sitters helping pet sitters'
was born.
We're very proud
of the fact that the entire conference was a labor of love for all involved.
None of the team members, speakers, helpers, or others get paid for
their work. It was all done as a way to give back to the pet sitting
community - to help each other grow our businesses and raise the professionalism
of our industry.
Over the years,
many smaller, regional pet sitting networks have formed and followed
in the CSU Pet Sitters Conference® footsteps by offering smaller
get togethers to help pet sitters in their area. Network mini-conferences
continue to thrive as more and more pet sitters around the country work
together for the benefit of each other.
The cost of holding
the conference has increased to the point that it's not as affordable
for attendees as it once was, nor as affordable we would like it to
be. And given the fact that the local networks are doing such a wonderful
job, the 2007 CSU Pet Sitters Conference® was not only our tenth
anniversary, but it was our farewell conference as well. This was not
an easy decision to make. In fact, it was quite difficult! Each of the
team members, along with founder Janet Depathy,
discussed this in great detail before making the final decision.
Our last conference
in Las Vegas was truly our crowning glory. We had our largest turnout,
most newbies ever, most money raised for our charity, best speakers,
etc.
etc. It's because of you, the individual pet sitter that we kept the
candle burning for the past 10 years!
Because of the great
job CSU has done over the past ten years of instilling in all pet sitters
the importance of networking, giving back to the industry, caring, sharing,
and offering support to others, we are leaving this arena with pride.
Pride in the knowledge that CSU will live on in the hearts and souls
of all who have loved and supported it and that the torch of camaraderie,
sharing and giving back to the industry we all love will live on in
all of us and be passed on to each pet sitter we meet.
To all of you, continue
to raise the bar in our industry! Continue to adhere to the mission
statement of CSU which is "Pet Sitters, helping one another by
caring, sharing, and being there". Each of us can make a difference
and together we will make our industry stronger!
